The polishing of Sc2 continues. I’m not sure how far I’ll get before it is time to release V17 (November time frame), but it should be another good chunk done. In addition, the reviewed sections of Sc2 continue to be incorporated.
Tasia continues to make progress on the Sc2 review in between other commitments and is now working in the final chapter.
One other special thing to note. The titlescreen image for Sc2 is in the final stages of being updated. Previously it read, “Target: Child of God”. It will now read, “Target: Godchild” to make it consistent with Gracia’s title throughout the dialog. Up until a couple of versions ago, both phrases were used in different places. At some point the dialog was made consistent and Godchild was used everywhere. It wasn’t until recently that I noticed the titlescreen still used the old wording.
Until next time!

Hey there. I’ve been a fan of Shining Force 3 since I was very young thanks to my dad. He had all three disks and the premium disk in japanese, but we had the translations from this site and others to help us along. Now however I no longer live with him but I want to record the games and I’m not about to ask him to let me borrow them because that would require him mailing it to me. My question is, without the original disks, could one just use a blank disk and follow the steps from there? or do you HAVE to have the originals.

You need the original discs. Sc2 and Sc3 are available on Ebay for fairly cheap. The English Sc1 is pretty expensive though. The discs can be copied, but that would be illegal. Another option in your case may be for your dad to run the patch and lend you the result, which may also be illegal, I’m not sure.
I vote for sticking with the current “Target: Child of God”. It just sounds better and has a more natural flow in context, especially when read aloud. Also, if Gracia’s title varies between the two in-game, that’s perfectly fine: they both mean the same thing, are virtually identical, and it isn’t confusing in the slightest. Indeed, there are many similar instances in life where a person or thing may be referred to using several variants (ex: Jesus Christ, Jesus the Christ, Son of God, God’s son), but it is always clear who or what is being referred to.
And as always, fantastic work with this project! Here’s hoping that crash in scenario 2’s Varlant battle gets sorted out as well.

Thanks for the feedback and the kind words!
Looks like the current Sc2 tag line will be with us for at least another year as we are having issues getting the image just right. I will consider leaving it as is permanently. I suppose it has a bit of an epic feel to it. Gracia’s title has been changed everywhere in the dialog to “Godchild” for two reasons. One to be more consistent and two it is more compact which is an ongoing concern. I agree Gracia’s title has less need to be consistent than other items and will look for opportunities to add flavor in a future pass.
No crashes that I know of are specifically patch issues. There are a few that have cropped up that are primarily emulator or original game version issues. They may yet be able to be solved within the patch however, so I’ll continue to look into them. No promises.
Thanks so much for all of your hard work! I’m currently making my way through SF III US Scenario 1…can’t wait to finish so I can experience the other two parts. 🙂
Can please you release future patch files in Mac OSX format as well as Windows? Thank you for your work so far!

Unfortunately no. All the tools were created for windows and I am not the author of the tools. You may be able to find help with this in the forums. You can always borrow a windows PC to create the ISO.
Thank you for doing the translation! Back when I was younger, my brother and I beat the first scenario (US release) and were so upset to find out they never were going to bring scenario 2 and 3 to the US. Now I can finally play the next two and have some closure!
Thanks again and keep up the great work!
Great to see this is still making headway, love this game:) C.
Do you have any way I could donate to the cause? As someone else mentioned, a Kickstarter would be awesome, but I know that the game is still cult classic.

No, the project is volunteer only and I expect it to stay that way. The only thing that could be done with funds is hire professional translators, but that is very expensive and I doubt a kickstarter fund would cover much. Thanks for the offer though!
U guys are amazing keep up the great work! Wish they would make more games like this one the shining series is one of the best!
Can’t wait till this polished! Amazing and great project!
Too bad you can’t get some sort of official Kickstarter setup for this….
Love the great work you guys all do. Getting ready to start my playthrough in the next couple months. I try to play through Shining Force III every couple years for old time’s sake. Keep up the awesome work. I pop in to commend you guys every couple updates. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do.

Thank you for your great work!
I love to see progress on this still being made.
thanks and keep it up!
Hello! Nice to see you are still making progress. I don’t understand japanese, however, I’m an engineer and programer (C++ and Java mostly). If I can do anything for this project I would gladly do it. Cheers!

Thanks for volunteering! I don’t see a need for a programmer currently, but I’ll let you know if the need arises.
Good to see progress is still being made on this!
Wonderful effort everyone!
