Progress Report February 2024

Happy 2024 shining fans!

We obviously didn’t make the aim of a December release. Knight and I both had projects come up with more critical deadlines as well as dealing with some real life events. So you’ll have to wait a bit longer.

The good news is V25 is going to be an extra special release with the new functionality it provides, so it will be worth waiting for. You will be the first to know when it is ready.

After a little breather, Special T and I have continued our work on the SF3 World Book Translation. You should see profiles starting to flow again, including Pappets who will be released very soon.

Keep Shining!

Looking forward to it. Were all the benefits of Switch’s reviews of the scenario dialogue realised in V24, or will some of that be in V25?

The Sc2 re-review (most of Ch5 and all of Ch6) is ongoing (acknowledging a significant break during 2023). Switch has completed about half of the required lines and all but 3 of those re-reviewed game files have been incorporated currently. That is, the review is complete up to the start of Ch 6 currently and at least that much progress will be reflected in V25.

It probably should be noted that Switch has reviewed several groups of lines/game files for Sc3 which we deemed more urgent (even though they weren’t sponsored, they would result in a more significant improvement in the patch). Some of those will certainly be significant enough to be mentioned in the upcoming V25 patch notes.

So I’ve finally started playing these after all these years. I’m only at the 3rd battle of disk 1, so far. Do you think it would be better to just wait for the updated patch at this point? Like, are there enough differences to where waiting would be the preferable option than to keep going on with v24?

Thank so much for your hard work over the years, I really appreciate it!

Glad you are finally aboard and thank you for the kind words!

You should go ahead and play with V24. In Sc1 there are only a few minor updates as it has been “finished” for a few versions now. But certainly check back before you start Sc2 and/or Sc3 to see if V25 is out. Sc3 in particular has a bunch of important updates. At any point you can update your version and continue playing your run.

Real life’s a bee-otch, but it should always comes first. I’m looking forward to this, as I just left a fruitless min maxing playthrough these past few months and would like to do a more casual playthrough. I can’t get over how dedicated you folks have been this whole time. Thank you for your continued efforts and work. Keep freedom legal and everything shining!

I was just wondering about this. Glad to hear! Looking forward to more reasons to replay. Keep it up!

Thank you legalize freedom for doing this awesome project !

Do you have a ball park on version 25 ?

No good estimate yet, but we are getting ready to start testing if that tells you anything.

Finally playing through SF3 for the first time, I’ve been playing on V23 and I’m finally nearing the end. It’s a bit odd to go from English dub lines in scenario to original Japanese in scenarios 2 and 3. Is there a practical way to replace the scenario 1 battle audio, perhaps by including a Japanese rom of scenario 1 or using the audio from scenario 3? Thanks for the great work, I look forward to having some mod options in the next update!

Yes, replacing the voices (with whatever you want) is possible and some rudimentary tools have been created. If you join the Discord and ask around, folks have already done some of this voice swapping work and made it available. Replacing all the voices with English is in our plan, but we just haven’t gotten to it as of yet.
