SF3Patch Version 19 Released!

The time has come! V19 is ready to go! You can download it using the button to the right.

However, we have had some problems with certain virus software flagging SF3Patch.exe (a self-extracting archive) as a suspected virus. Rest easy, there is no actual virus. It is a false positive related to self-extracting archives in general. I can verify this is happening with AVG and Avast, but the issue may also be happening on others. Just be aware.

If this affects you, you have a couple of options.
1. Disable your virus protection, download and install the patch, re-enable virus protection.
2. Moving forward, I plan to include SF3Patch.zip alongside the normal exe patch archive. Just unpack where you would normally install, but without the slick presentation.

I’m excited about V19! Here’s why. The list of visible changes is shorter than normal. What? …you might say. Yes, because this is the first version where I can say the list of needed changes is drying up. While there is still much work to do with getting the remainder of Sc3 reviewed by a translator, incorporating the remaining lines that have been reviewed and giving the storyline a close look, the big-ticket things have been done. It will be the finer details and special additions from here on out. That’s why I’m excited about V19. I do need to concentrate on getting chapters to beta (finished) status and I plan to do just that.

Now on to the most visible updates:

  • Many corrections and improvements, particularly in Sc3
  • Improved clarity of the Edmund, Rogan, Produn and Brutus storylines throughout
  • Added a tribute to the real Hedva and David in Sc2 at David’s room on the Stump Skywalk.
Continue to knock on the door before triggering battle 11. On the last line, David will be singing their very famous song “I Dream of Naomi“.
  • Corrected Dark Dragon’s name in the Premium Disc battle
  • Many new icons added (thanks to Special T)

And the rest is the nitty gritty. Working to perfect the Sc3 experience!
I believe all the major problem areas in Sc3 have been addressed. Minor dialog oddities may still exist in places, but it’s a good time to dive in if you’ve been holding off. The whole package is in really good shape.

Thank you for all that you and everyone involved with this project do. It continues to amaze me that even after all these years there’s still a dedicated group of people taking time out of their lives to bring us this translation. Keep up the good work, and good health and prosperity to all of you in the new year!

Still an amazing project after all of these years. I just keep hoping someone comes up with some better SEGA Saturn emulators that can be played on newer consoles. Playing translated SF3 on a PlayStation Vita would be AMAZING! Sadly, doesn’t seem to be a lot of devs working on Saturn emulation these days.

Thank you all so much for continuing to work on this. This project is a literal dream come true for me.

Amazing work! I cannot wait to download and try it. I check back every couple months or so to see how progress is coming. I can’t believe my favorite game of all time is almost complete. I get goosebumps typing this and am excited to give the trilogy another playthrough 🙂

Can’t wait for the day you say “that’s it, we’re finished”. This project is the reason why I got my Saturns modded. Thank you very much for your great work.

I’m not sure how long that will be, but the solution is to play it every few years. It’s exciting when you know improvements have been made since the last time. I might even put forth that the changes are subtle enough at this point where the average player wouldn’t even notice the difference between now and “finished”.

I btw got this message when I tried to post: “Duplicate comment detected; it looks as though you’ve already said that!”
Well, that’s true, but I can’t repeat it enough 😀

Is the tribute in the original game?

    legalize freedom! edit:
The August 2017 update explains it. It is worth noting that it wasn’t until relatively recent that it was discovered Hedva and David were inspired by these real-life entertainers. This revelation also prompted the name change from Hedoba to Hedva.

Is there a percentage for how much has been translated so far? Also will there be physical releases in a complete collection, or separately like the Japanese versions?

    legalize freedom! edit:
It has all been translated at some point, but the initial quality was uneven. This project aims to have a complete translation review and that has happened completely through Sc2 and probably about half of Sc3. Not like the first half, just roughly half of the lines overall (since the “missing” lines were reviewed, but the previously translated lines haven’t been reviewed).
No physical release is planned or likely since that would be against the law. However, you may find various art projects that have put together cover art and images to print on cds. There is some of this on the FTP.
