The Shining Force III Translation V15 is now available! Download from the button to the right.

Pardon the long post, but I wanted to expand on some of the changes.
Along with the usual plethora of improvements, you can also expect the following in this version:

Several proper nouns were introduced and/or made more consistent. These are the most visible:

• Bulzome Temple which was previously known by a handful of names including shrine and palace, is now consistent throughout. The main building is known as the Temple while the 2 smaller buildings are known as Shrines.
• The previously referenced “ice field” among other less descriptive names, is now known as
  the Frozen Sea. A particularly attractive translation of the otherwise clunky previous description(s). This is the frozen water area around Bulzome Temple.
• The terminology of the save game files is now consistent. They are now referred to as Records throughout. Previously they were called a handful of names such as files, saves, save games, records, etc. Other related terms have also been made consistent such as Overwriting records.

Some hard decisions were made on several class names. Those changed were deemed too long. They made the on-screen character box too long and contributed to the status screen ghosting issue.

Due to a far-out revelation that Hedoba and David were named after the early 70’s singing duo, Hedoba is now known as Hedva. They were apparently a hit in Japan back in the day. David really turns on the charm 1:00 in.

Some weapon descriptions were updated thanks to research by Special T for his work on the Jumesyn site. Most were values that were off by one point. Most of the gloves were affected and a couple of the regen and spell levels were corrected.

And saving the best for last! The text on the PD images was re-imagined. Again thanks to Special T for his image work. They came out great!

The SF3Patch V15 test files have been posted to the FTP. I will take feedback for about a month while also finishing up a couple of outstanding things.

Everyone is encouraged to try this version out and make sure everything is working properly. Please also verify any issues you have submitted have been resolved.

The process of updating the files for release has begun. The plan is to have the test release posted by November 1st.

I’ll then take a month or so of feedback before releasing the official V15 patch in early December.

Doesn’t look like I’m going to quite make it all the way through my testing of Sc1. The end has quite a bit to look at. However, you can expect it to be beta up through the catacomb battle (27).

The re-dress of the PD images came out great. Thanks to Special T for his work. Speaking of Special T, he is currently well in to the facelift of the Jumesyn site. He’s bringing the already fabulous site in line with the patch as well as making any additions and corrections. I believe his plan is to offer his work as a stand alone site (not actually on the internet) to be posted on the SF3 Translation Project FTP. More details on this later.

Lots of good improvements ongoing. Currently under review are the last chapter of Sc1 and the Sc2 bookcase.

It will be a good milestone to get a full scenario ready for beta even if it is the easiest one. I’m filling the last remaining holes in the bookcase by checking it in every possible location and with differing story line options (thanks to BoneIdol’s awesome editor).

The next version release is on the radar. The next time you hear from me I will have a date for the release of V15.

Basic stuff still on-going, but a couple of notes to pass along.

mr2dax has rejoined the project after returning from a stint in Japan. I’m not sure how much time he will be able to offer, but his return is very welcome.

The PD images have been completed and will be included with the next version. Thanks to Special T once again for the image editing.

Working on mostly basic stuff since the release of V14, such as continuing to incorporate the translator reviewed files from Sc2.

Synbios16 has started back up on his play through of Sc3. I believe he plans to start recording for Sc3, once we’re sure the shining vid embargo is over. I will once again make his review a priority so the vids can be the best they can be.

And certainly not least, Special T and I are working through the PD images, the select screens… making them a bit shinier.

The V14 patch has been re-posted due to a couple of lines that slipped through the cracks. Normally I probably wouldn’t find it necessary to re-post for just a couple of lines, but these were the final mass promotion lines from Remotest church late in Sc3.

So please grab the patch again before playing Sc3.

The Shining Force III Translation V14 has been released! Download from the button to the right.

The V14 test period was fruitful and many improvements have been made over the last month or so. I’d like to thank everyone who provided feedback to help make V14 the best it could be.

The patch has come a long way since V13, and is getting better all the time. It’s amazing that the issues are now few enough that I’m able to ask the community for feedback on the entire package and address every comment in a single forum thread. Not that it is perfect yet (Sc3 in particular still has a little ways to go), but it is really coming together after all these years of effort.

It’s a great time to be a shining fan. It’s good to see all of us coming together to respond to recent events that threaten our community. It’s a perfect time to enjoy the latest and greatest SF3 translation patch!

SF3Patch V14 test files have been updated on the FTP. These include all fixes to date.

SFC member Kalcano and others have given some great feedback, particularly on Sc3 and I’d like to give him the opportunity to finish his playthrough before making V14 official. If you guys remember what Jokerx7 did for V13, I’m sure you can appreciate Kalcano’s effort. There’s not really a reason to rush it. Everyone has the test files to play with if you just can’t wait.

The extra time has also given me a chance to fully implement the bookcases in both Sc2 and Sc3. They are now fully functional.

SF3Patch V14 test files have been posted to the FTP. These files are virtually complete and ready for release including Sc3. I will continue to implement some last minute things and address any problems found for a couple of weeks.

Everyone is welcomed to load these up to make sure everything is working and to verify any issues you have submitted have been taken care of. There may be some that I haven’t gotten to yet, but I would still like a reminder about them if you submitted them. The sooner the better so that I may get them in this release.
